VELAS :- The Turtle Village.
Amazing Landscapes, Delightful Wild Life and Untouched beach is called Velas which is tranquil village on the Konkan coastal of Maharashtra.
Very small place from India but known to globe for their famous Olive Ridley turtle conservation activity from last almost 10 year.
This is one of the famous site for Olive Ridley turtle hatchlings.
Sea turtles, are one of the few animals that eat sea grass. Sea grass needs to be constantly cut short to help it grow across the sea floor. Sea turtles act as grazing animals that cut the grass short and help maintain the health of the sea grass beds. Sea grass beds provide breeding and developmental grounds for numerous species of fish, shellfish etc.
sea grass are essential breeding and development areas for many species of fish and other marine life. A decline or loss of sea grass beds would damage these populations, triggering a chain reaction and negatively impacting marine and human life.
Though turtle is important factor in eco system , Marine sea turtles are caught worldwide for their flesh and shell. Specific species of marine sea turtles are targeted not for their flesh, but for their shells which can be used in ornaments and can be used for paper weight.
Considering the importance of sea turtles in the marine ecosystem, Villagers in Velas taken the lead to protect marine turtles and ensured the subsequent safe release of their hatchlings.
During their breeding season, Olive Ridley turtle come for laying eggs on Velas beach. At a time almost 100 to 150 eggs can be laid. Villagers search for such eggs on beach and bring it to safe place ( Nests ). There are total 17 nest which completely inside sand and used for hatchlings. Incubation period is almost 40 to 45 days. Turtle hatchling process is totally natural process and after 45 days, in morning hours (till 7.00 am) and in evening (after 5.30 pm) baby turtles leaves in sea.
Velas is one of the active participants in the world of Nature Conservation which is real inspiration for every one.

Shape of the Head:- Large and Triangular
Limbs:- Two Claws on each Flapper.
Diet:- Invertebrates like jelly fish, snails, Shrimps etc
Breeding Season :- Throughout the year, Primarily November to March Period of Nesting :- Night
Clutch / Season:- 1 to 3 times
Re-Nesting Interval :- 20 to 28 Days
Remigration interval:- 1 to 2 Year
Number of eggs:- 100 to 150
Incubation period:- 40 to 45 days

नातं...
नातं म्हणजे चांदण..
जसा रात्री पडणा-या चांदण्यात एकटा चंद्र दिसतो ना तस काही आपण असतो
इतके जवळ असुनही भरवसाचं कुठलच चांदण नसतं त्याच्यासाठी...
आणि हे चांदण म्हणजे आपण करत असलेल्या प्रवासात आपल्याला क्षणभराची..काही काळापुरती सोबत..
मग ते कुठलही असो आइ-बाप,भाऊ-बहीण, मित्र-मैत्रीणी, प्रेयसी-बायको, मुलं-बाळं, आणि बरेच काही..
एका ठराविक वेळेपुरते ही आपल्याला या प्रवासात कंपनी देतात, आपल्या सोबत हसतात, रडतात, जगतात,
त्यांनाही आपला प्रवास असतो ..आपण फ़क्त ती सोबत एंजॉय करायची...सुख: दुख: वाटुन घ्यायचे..
जशी आपल्याला त्यांची गरज असते तशी त्यांनाही आपल्या सोबतीची गरज असते..
त्यात गुंतण, न गुंतण हे सर्वस्वी आपल्या हातात असतं,आपल्या म्हणण्यापेक्षा आपल्या मनाच्या हातात...!!
आज आहे उद्या नाही, कशाचाही भरवसा नसतो हे शापित सत्य आहे ..
आपलं इथ काही नसतं ना कुठली वस्तु, ना पैसा, ना कूठली माणसं...
मग कशाला उगाच या गोष्टींच ओझं घेउण फ़िरायचा हे माझं ते माझं, हा माझा तो माझा,
हे काहीच नसतं..इथं फ़क्त आपण असतो आपण..आपणच आपल्यासाठी जगायचं असतं...
अश्या गोष्टीत गुंतण्यापेक्षा समोरचा प्रत्येक क्षण, दिवस मजेत घालवायचा....
आणि हसत शेवटापर्यंतचा प्रवास करायचा...सोबतच्या असलेल्या चांदण्याबरोबर....
याच प्रवासाला जगणं आणि त्या चांदण्याला नातं म्हणतात...

Sandhan valley सांधण व्हॅली is known Wonder of nature & splendid of Sahyadri (Western Ghats). Water carved valley of 200 ft deep and about 1.5 long. Sandhan valley is located on the west side of beautiful Bhandardara region, near Samrad village. Valley surrounded with mighty Alang, Madan & Kulang ,Ratangad , Ajoba & Kalsubai (5400 ft. highest peak in Maharashtra) mountain ranges. Brilliant & deep narrow rock floored between the two high walls of mountain range. At some places its width is less than 3 ft so that at some places sun rays unable to reach. So it’s called valley of shadow.
